#GamingBytes: Five basic differences between CoD Mobile and PUBG Mobile

Call of Duty's mobile version will soon be unveiled globally. The game is available as a closed beta and as of now, it is accessible to only a limited number of people.

When launched, CoD will compete with the current king of Battle Royale titles, PUBG.

The two games follow the same basic format with some unique variations.

Here is how the two differ.

Graphics

Call of Duty Mobile vs PUBG Mobile: Graphics

PUBG Mobile's graphics are undoubtedly great. From player animation to world building and fighting animation, the game seems fluid.

Call of Duty takes it a notch higher with more realistic and life-like graphics. Its animation makes the game a tad faster than PUBG.

While both titles have console-quality graphics, Call of Duty is more detailed, especially when it comes to character design.

Modes

PUBG Mobile has a Battle Royale mode, which is further divided into the longer 'Classic' mode and the fast-paced 'Arcade' mode. Each mode has its own distinct features.

PUBG also has two zombie modes called Darkest Night and Survive Till Dawn.

Call of Duty has three modes: an unreleased zombie mode, Battle Royale mode, and a multi-player mode with its own missions and maps.

Gameplay

The Battle Royale modes of both games follow the same rules. People compete against each other using various weapons in teams or solo and the ones who survive, win.

Major differences are that in CoD,you can slide and travel in a helicopter. You can also create rooms to play with friends and unlike PUBG, it's free.

CoD has an auto-fire option as well.

Multi-player

Call of Duty Mobile v/s PUBG Mobile: Biggest differences

The biggest difference between the two is CoD's multi-player mode that allows players to play modes like Domination, Search & Destroy, Team Deathmatch in 18 maps.

PUBG's Battle Royale mode, on the other hand, has more maps than CoD's.

CoD looks futuristic but PUBGgets the benefit of having a loyal, established community.

Is Call of Duty Mobile better than PUBG Mobile?

It is too early to determine which game is better. Call of Duty is still awaiting a global release and until it arrives, we can't really compare it with PUBG.

One thing is certain though- Call of Duty has a legacy of its own and will certainly affect PUBG'splayer base.

TikTok ban: Govt asks Google, Apple to remove app from Play Store and App Store respectively

An interim order from the Madras High Court directing the govt to ban TikTokin India has come into effect. It’s being reported that Apple and Google have been asked to remove the app from the App Store and Play Store respectively.

TikTok is an immensely popular video sharing app that boasts of about 0.5 billion users, over 119 million of whom are in India. The bulk of these users are children and teenagers.

The app, which lets users create short, fun videos, has come under fire for allegedly allowing ‘pornographic’ and ‘sleazy’ content to propagate, especially among its younger audience. It’s also been alleged, in several countries no less, that the app is proving to be a fertile hunting ground for paedophiles.

Following a PIL filed earlier this year, the Madras HC on 3 April passed the interim order directing the govt to ban TikTok. The matter was then taken to the Supreme Court, which refused to stay the order on the grounds that the matter was still sub-judice and that it would hear the matter on 22 April.

TikTok was at one point the third-most downloaded app on the Play Store.

According to an Economic Timesreport, TikTok has characterised the order as disproportionate, discriminatory and arbitrary and made no comment on the ban. In its defence, TIkTok states that it can’t be held liable for the kind of content that ‘third-parties’ upload on the platform. This is the same argument used by the likes of Facebook and YouTube when defending the content shared on their respective platforms.

TikTok's official statement on the matter is as follows:

"As per the proceedings in the Supreme Court today, the Madras High Court will hear the matter on ex parte ad interim order. The Supreme Court has listed the matter again for April 22, 2019, to be apprised of the outcome of the hearing on the April 16th, 2019 before the Madurai Bench of Madras High Court. At TikTok, we have faith in the Indian Judicial system and the stipulations afforded to social media platforms by the Information Technology (Intermediaries Guidelines) Rules, 2011. We are committed to continuously enhancing our existing measures and introducing additional technical and moderation processes as part of our ongoing commitment to our users in India. In line with this, we have been stepping up efforts to take down objectionable content. To date, we have removed over 6 million videos that violated our Terms of Use and Community Guidelines, following an exhaustive review of content generated by our users in India."

Blocking TikTok isn’t an effective solution

Removing the app from app stores isn’t really a solution to the problem, though. The app already has a user base in excess of 100 million and the app isn’t going to disappear from their phone just because it’s been banned. And while new iOS users might be left in the lurch, Android users will simply be able to download the app from unauthorised sources, which would, among other things, only serve to exacerbate the problems of hacking and phishing and other cybersecurity issues.

This would, in turn, simply make TikTok’s target audience more vulnerable.

Yet another issue is the manner in which the ban has been implemented. Based on an interim order, the government is ordering the removal of an app, effectively killing its business and revenue. The same mechanism could easily apply to PUBG Mobile, YouTube and any other app or service against which a PIL is filed.

Update: Here's TikTok India's statement on the Madras HC directive,

“We welcome the decision of the Madras High Court to appoint Arvind Datar as Amicus Curae (independent counsel) to the court. We have faith in the Indian judicial system and we are optimistic about an outcome that would be well received by over 120 million monthly active users in India, who continue using TikTok to showcase their creativity and capture moments that matter in their everyday lives.”

Last month, Surat, Rajkot, and Vadodara had placed a ban on the highly popular and addictive PUBG. They were followed by Bhavnagar and Gir Somnath districts. According to a notification issued by Rajkot Police Commissioner Manoj Agrawal, the new ban has been implemented from March 9 till April 30.

Earlier Chief Warden of Men’s Hostel of Vellore Institute of Technology (VIT), a university located in Tamil Nadu, had sent out a circular warning the students against playing late night online games, with a special mention to PUBG.

Warning about Anentier Property Speculators

As you may know, the RRA have had problems over the last 2 years or so, with a property company called Aventier, who are lodging planning applications to demolish good family detached houses in Riddlesdown and then build flats (usually 8 or 9 flats). It is kept under 10 units, because they then don’t have to included affordable housing units.

We have had four of their applications in Riddlesdown approved by the Planning Committee now, despite fierce opposition. I know they are also seeking and getting applications approved in Kenley & other parts of Purley. They have also been very active in Shirley. Aventier are based in West Wickham.

 

The reason for this note; does anyone have a copy of the offer letter sent to owners with the t&c’s? From what I have heard the terms and conditions of the sale are heavily weighted in Aventier’s favour and I don’t think some home owners realise the consequences and that they are tied into Aventier’s t&c’s for maybe a year, to 2 years.
